Dan Buthler was born in Denmark in 1965 and raised in Sweden, where he has spent most of his life and built his career as a writer. After working in a variety of fields and earning a bachelor’s degree in marketing, he turned to storytelling in 2006.
Together with Dag Öhrlund, Buthler created one of the most infamous villains in contemporary Swedish fiction. Collaboration has remained an important part of his career: he has published novels with five different co-authors and written more than twenty books in Sweden, many of which have been translated and published internationally. He has sold over three million copies in Sweden alone.
His most personal creation, however, is Gabriel Creuz.
Wrongfully convicted and stripped of his career, reputation and place in society, the Swedish nobleman emerges from prison determined to reclaim his life and dignity — only to find himself drawn into a world far more dangerous than the one he left behind.
The Gabriel Creuz thrillers were originally written in Swedish and are now being adapted for an international audience. The main series is planned to span at least five books, beginning with Omitted — the original Rök utan eld, which to date has sold over 100,000 copies.
The novels are told in the first person — you know exactly as much as Gabriel does, and not a sentence more. When he is lied to, you are lied to.
